A New York Times story that ran in 2001 about a homeless dog wandering around a suburban part of New York City, struck a chord with me. They offered him hand-outs and cared enough about him, not to call Animal Control and risk having him picked up and sent to a shelter where his fate would be doomed.

The Santa Paws Drive is an online toy drive dedicated to shelter pets to bring them a little joy and fun while they await their forever homes.
