Here's my attempt to bring it all together in an Animal Person post. As a vegan, part of what I believe is that bringing animals onto this planet to use them as food or as pets isn't ethical. Haiti doesn't allow people from the Church of the Latter-Day Saints to adopt. Others don't. Then there are the travel requirements.

On Alienating the Neighbors

As for neighbors, a couple of years ago I wrote about how my next-door neighbor's daughter, who is in medical school, visited her parents and brought a puppy (Izzy) from a pet store with her. I do my best to coach them and even walk Izzy with Violet, as she's an alpha dog and will show Izzy the ropes, which she did. But I didn't get very far.
