Whales are cows. It is technically correct, and recently fashionable, to insist that any living animal is a member of the larger group that contains it phylogenetically, i.e., ancestrally, with that group often named after the known animal that roots the tree. The point is, of course, that whales are not cows.

I actually have many targets, in a way, a I want to see lots and lots, but there is one species that the reason that the trip is even happening, the animal that has been pretty much the top of my animal bucket list for well over a decade. My animal bucket list hasn’t changed much either, for similar reasons.

People ascribe near mythic status to the members of the family Delphinidae (and other related families). It may be part of the reason I find them unnerving, it is only the smart creatures that can do actual bad things, instead of just wild animal things. Which has always mystified me slightly. And dolphins can do bad things.
