Watching them hunt is fascinating. I’ve seen Secretarybirds zigzag after fleeing animals, spreading their huge wings periodically, presumably in an effort to maintain their balance as they twist and turn. When a fire is located they will descend and feed upon small animals that flee the flames. Note the huge wings.

The maintenance man declared that his father was a falconer, and that he would take her home so he could care for her. One of the animal keepers brought her to me, and I put her in my clinic. She taught them how to hunt, and when they were released in the fall she stayed on her perch, dozing in the sun.
