Coincidentally, last night was a board meeting for our homeowner's association, and though I wasn't on the agenda there's always time for homeowner comments about, say, the petting zoo and pony rides that are scheduled for the spring "BBQ" ( here 's part one of this story). Basically, it's for children who eat animals and their parents.

Like a "BBQ, pony rides and a petting zoo!" When I started thinking about trying to get the association to cancel the pony rides and petting zoo (which are often part of one business as a quick Google search of " traveling petting zoo " will demonstrate), my several-year vegan husband said, "What's the use?

What begins as a personal quest becomes a mission as the brave little acorn-cracker realizes that animals are enslaved everywhere. I understand this is a children's book, but particularly if you're trying to be a voice for animals, it would behoove you to make connections that might be missed otherwise. Or any vegan message.

There is a general consensus that vegetarianism and veganism are different philosophically. Hence the psychological continuum described (below) by Austria's Association Against Animal Factories from about a year ago. How about this? I assume Francione does not disagree. I don't disagree with that, as most people are conformists.

But what I do is "imposing" or "forcing" veganism and atheism on my child. We were presented with animals to eat and wear. We were presented with animal bodies to celebrate over at holidays. Animal skin to wear on our feet. Essentially, my parents made me eat and wear dead animals. We ate and wore them.
