” Blue-bearded Bee-eaters seem to have a pretty clever hunting strategy. In the section on other animals which sometimes ends my posts, the mammal comparing favorably with Donald Trump today is some kind of squirrel. A giant squirrel, actually. Attack of the giant squirrels from Mars. Or something like that.

Animals of Kruger National Park by Keith Barnes is the animal guide I wish I had when I visited South Africa. It would have been useful to have more information about the rest camps that define each route, but I understand that there is a fine line (maybe even a broad one) between writing an animal guide and a tourist guide.

The quills of the “Saqu Ettair” Secretarybirds feed on small lizards, insects, rodents, birds eggs and, of course, snakes. Watching them hunt is fascinating. On several occasions I’ve seen animals that are making a beeline towards shelter double-back when the wings are spread straight into their waiting talons.
