In an old man, such hairs coming out of the ears or nose would be considered extremely ugly. Somehow, for this bird it is ok. They also look fairly cute. The Northern Lapwing is Near Threatened.

Fortunately, they are quite common in Shanghai. A relative of this species is the Yellow-bellied Tit.
