Deer, cattle, camel and goats are more closely related to dolphins and whales then they are with horses. . •

For you and me, there are about 200 bird species, but for proper tourists, there seem to be only five species in the reserve: Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Sloth Bear , Indian Wild Dog (Dhole) and the Gaur. In the north of the reserve, by the Tadoba Lake, a herd of Chital Deer is grazing, with a familiar sight of Cattle Egrets around them.

These vast and rugged lands of savanna, hills, gorges and rivers still protect some of Ethiopia’s largest extant herds of typical African savanna game, including African Elephant, African Buffalo, Giraffe, Lion, Leopard, African Wild Dog and numerous species of grazers. We spotted a young Leopard and his mother in Mago National Park.

Now, asking for vultures in India is a bit like asking your safari guide to show you a leopard. Leopards are hard to spot because they are elusive. Of the estimated 500 million cattle in India, only 4% were destined for consumption by humans as meat. Oddly, I saw no rats, only a mongoose or two and a few stray dogs.
