I bet you didn't realize that Obama had any animal welfare picks, but he did. And, in general, the Humane Society and its Legislative Fund likes them. He has a strong environmental record and he has supported some animal issues in the past. HSUS is also happy about Lisa Jackson heading the EPA.

I don't care if they're supposedly working for altruistic purposes (they're not, but that's another story), they are allowing animals to suffer through negligent care separate from the excruciating experiments they must still undergo. The improperly euthanized animals remained alive but were discarded as if they were dead.

Angus directed me to a story about the Calgary Stampede (rodeo) and the Calgary and Vancouver Humane Societies which had me asking: Whose side are they on? The Calgary Humane Society works with the Stampede to make sure the animals are safe (and by the way that's impossible if the animals are being used in the rodeo.

According to Parker, here are the threats: the ALF, the ELF, SHAC, PeTA and the oddest member of the group, the HSUS. The Humane Society of the United States is the big bully on this strange playground. The HSUS isn't even anti-hunting ! Parker uses the term "anti-modern farming activists," which is new to me.
