You say that "Family Farms do not exist and that they don't care about their animals." Allow me to suggest an answer: It looks like Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary or Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary or Maple Farm Sanctuary or another place where animals are rescued from certain betrayal and death, often under the guise of "love" and "family."

In " Food for the Soul ," Kristof once again yearns for the farm of his childhood which, for him, had "soul." What that means is that it wasn't a factory-farm operation. The animals were still bred and raised for slaughter, but evidently in some kind of soulful way we don't really hear about. I'm not sure how that equals soul.

Ninety-nine percent of dairy farms are family owned. Families, so the commercials go, don't engage in untoward aspects of animal husbandry that might hurt the cows.
