Old factories and mills are being torn down, and they can’t use house chimneys which have been lined or capped. You rush over to investigate, and there are birds in your fireplace.

I always thought it was funny even before I really got what a stoagie was, because there’s something inherently joyful about the chittering, chattering Chimney Swifts that circle just about every neighborhood in eastern North America. And the next day they’re gone, coursing over the skies of South America.

Dogs were bred to be companion animals; pigs and cows are raised as food. However, I agree with Mr. Foer that factory farming has to go. The fury this meal caused my friends and family back in America motivated me to examine whether eating any animal was justified. We carnivores have to become more benevolent.
