For example, the federal government owns less than 1% in Connecticut but nearly 80% in Nevada. There is one gigantic outlier: Alaska.

Of course, the Sierra Nevada is a huge mountain range, and there are countless other places to bird besides Yosemite. Hawaiian Petrel has become an annual visitor in recent years, and albatross are more abundant in this part of the state. Black-footed is common, Laysan are sporadic, and Short-tailed are not unheard of.

but I really feel I should nominate an albatross, if only because I love taunting Corey about them. I’ll go for the Black-browed Albatross , in celebration of the fact that conservation efforts have resulted in this species being downgraded from endangered to near threatened this year.
