ALWAYS assume there is some other bird species in there that you have not found yet. Lake Merritt, Oakland, CA. Here is a flock of endangered species. Some birds breed in flocks, at least in part to avoid predation. This is my flock of Laysan Albatross , on Midway Atoll. Smelling this is worse than death itself.
