They are a colonial breeder, nesting only in western Alaska, on a narrow band of coastal sedge meadows 2. They leave their breeding grounds in early summer to move down the coast, some travelling as far south as the Gulf of California. Of course, all birds in these photos are in non-breeding plumage.

Riparian areas and springs can yield Lawrence’s Goldfinch , and Brown-crested Flycatcher is a local breeder. Fall through spring.

We did have an incident in Alaska regarding bestiality in Juneau, however the incident was an off lier of typical bestiality. There is no wrong in using a breeding rack, it does not damage an animal.

In Alaska, they were found to mimic 30 different species ( source ). Apparently , the two main factors influencing double brooding are the individual quality of the breeder and the timing of the first clutch. Some hoopoe individuals must like chicks a lot, even resorting to double brooding. Who are these weirdoes?

A Merganser Trifecta!

It goes without saying that our three breeding species of mergansers in the United States are amongst the most brilliantly colored birds we have. Common , Hooded and Red-breasted Mergansers all breed here, but Red-breasted is the more northerly of the group. They don’t breed here, but winter strictly on the Front Range.
