Highlights from a Cancelled Pelagic Trip in Costa Rica

Alas, our trip to the sea was not to be! They might be regular in South Texas but not in Costa Rica. The trip began with plans made by world birder Pirjo Lakso to see if we could do a repeat of the fantastic pelagic trip we did in April, earlier this year. Tailless or not, we were pleased to see this uncommon bird. Plain Chachalacas.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of April 2011)

10,000 Birds

My own best bird was Caspian Tern , right on time along Lake Ontario. On the other hand, a woefully brief glimpse of a Hook-billed Kite at Bentsen State Park was all it took to move it from my world list to my ABA list.

Peeps and Beer!

Alas, the beer is only available on draft in Texas for a limited time, far out of range for me in New York. Certainly – before this review, at least – I had never actually bought a box. But I really would’ve jumped at a chance to try this beer, if only to review a beer infused with the world’s best-known bird-inspired candy.

Best Bird of the Year 2013

We’ll just have to take Jochen’s word that there had been swiftlets in this sky… Donna sure had a good time on her visit to Texas in November! Alas, the bird had flown. It was my last day in Texas, still many birds and butterflies to see. I always like to go for the heart when selecting Best Bird of the Year.
