Alas, our trip to the sea was not to be! They might be regular in South Texas but not in Costa Rica. Since our trip was meant to leave from Cabuya, we were in the right place for this fine year bird. The evening before our trip, we received word of high winds and rough waters; seas much too rough for a boat. Plain Chachalacas.

My own best bird was Caspian Tern , right on time along Lake Ontario. He actually got a good look at this cryptic caprimulgid, that lucky sod! On the other hand, a woefully brief glimpse of a Hook-billed Kite at Bentsen State Park was all it took to move it from my world list to my ABA list.

Alas, the beer is only available on draft in Texas for a limited time, far out of range for me in New York. Certainly – before this review, at least – I had never actually bought a box. But I really would’ve jumped at a chance to try this beer, if only to review a beer infused with the world’s best-known bird-inspired candy.

We’ll just have to take Jochen’s word that there had been swiftlets in this sky… Donna sure had a good time on her visit to Texas in November! Alas, the bird had flown. It was my last day in Texas, still many birds and butterflies to see. Tragic, right? What’s a birder to do?
