Alas, it seems they were already gone from Tianmashan in March. Ironically (and personally, given that I am not particularly fond of the human race, also deservedly) this may help the spread of diseases carried by birds, such as avian influenza ( source ).

” Fortunately, most of these researchers could be taken off their antidepressants after proper sound recording was invented. I can sometimes hear Hwamei singing here in my compound in Shanghai – alas, these are then cage birds, as the species is popular as a caged bird for its singing.

Birding Nonggang, Guangxi, China – part 2

The breeding ecology of the Yellow-bellied Warbler was actually studied exactly here at Nonggang in 2019 by 3 Chinese researchers. Apparently, some bird photographers think that any human artifacts shown on a bird photo immediately spoil the whole photo. This included recording a total of 77,760 minutes of video.
