Alas, only 12 plants remain from that season, victims of my inexperienced care. This oak was my first success with collected acorns. Alas, this is what I must trim. I have successfully started, from wild-collected seeds and cuttings, food sources for birds such as Coral Trees, Cassias, Chokecherries, and lots of Oaks.

The Winter Gull Survey (WinGS) will run over the winters of 2023/24 and 2024/25 to collect updated information on the numbers and distributions of these wintering gulls in the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Alas, there wasn’t this year, but this wasn’t due to a sudden collapse in bird numbers, but the weather.

Just a Few More Days…

Even the first Common House Martin has been spotted and the flocks of returning Common (Eurasian) Cranes here and there – alas, not by me. However, Garganeys and Northern Lapwings are back; the other day I saw my first Black Stork of the season and Eurasian Skylarks are already singing in flight above the fields.
