Among the possible species there are Rock Bunting , Eurasian Wryneck , Grey-headed and Eurasian Green Woodpeckers , European Honey Buzzard , Lesser Spotted Eagle.

Nothing was on my agenda for that afternoon. I stitched away as I watched the Red-bellied Woodpecker scatter the smaller Chipping Sparrows and Carolina Chickadees as it glided down for a few seed morsels. The feeder dangles from a clothesline between two pine trees, beckoning a range of bird varieties.

I chalked up 132 species in a pretty relaxed eight days, during which birds shared the agenda with culture. My own trip was not an intensive birding experience, and August is clearly not the most productive month.

Desi was happy to pick up rocks and sticks to hand to me and Daisy identified a Red-bellied Woodpecker by its coughing call. No, I have no such diabolical agendas! Blue-winged and Yellow Warblers sang as we walked down the Hollow Road Trail, as well as a Wood Thrush , a Baltimore Oriole , and an Eastern Towhee. Pure coincidence!
