Nationwide, wildlife watchers now outspend hunters 6 to 1. Giving a few hundred hunters something else to shoot, in my opinion, cannot be worth the blowback from tens of thousands of people who are willing to travel and spend just to watch the birds fly over. Isn’t that neat?

I chalked up 132 species in a pretty relaxed eight days, during which birds shared the agenda with culture. Ducks and herons include Garganey and Ferruginous Duck , Squacco and Purple Herons , as well as the Eurasian Spoonbill. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, wildlife is still more commonly sold to foreign hunters.
