We support two ocean protection organizations: People for Puget Sound (local) and the Ocean Conservancy. The purpose is to protect ocean species as a whole. I was reading Ocean Conservancy's magazine today. For the past couple of issues I've read, it has had a "sustainable seafood recipe."

Mentally, they go insane from boredom and stress, just as our dogs or cats would if they were kept in tiny crates or carriers for their entire lives. There is no difference between cruelty to a pig or a dog or a hen or a cat, and so the sooner we relegate these awful devices to the dustbin of history, the better.

I wonder instead if this is actually about the difference between advocacy and action, and about the way things ‘should’ be. And embattled minority should be protected. Dogs should not be used to hunt foxes. Should lends itself to advocacy, a crucial aspect of conservation. A hungry child should be fed.
