The site’s primary purpose is to raise money to help shelters care for homeless pets. All need food, shelter, and medical care, so that they have the chance to be reunited with their original owners or adopted into caring, permanent homes. More pets are entering shelters, but donors’ purse strings have tightened.

An Animal Person reader wrote me with the following question: There are many species of cichlids in Lake Victoria that are on the verge of extinction, and most are hardy and small enough to be kept in an aquarium. Is keeping animals because they're endangered any different from keeping them because they are homeless? .
