When I agreed to read and review Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson's THE DOG WHO COULDN'T STOP LOVING (Harper 2010), the regal Charles Hobson Booger, III was still with us. He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. But let's back up a bit.

They can say that the puppy was needing to be re-homed, therefore it's like adopting from a rescue group. But I didn't campaign for a presidential greyhound for exactly the same reason Obama's decision was disappointing: it glorifies pure breed dogs.

And Adoption Awareness Month. I am a vegan who has adopted a diabetic greyhound who eats vegan food ( Natural Balance ), and who is adopting a boy from Russia. As a vegan, part of what I believe is that bringing animals onto this planet to use them as food or as pets isn't ethical. And Diabetes Awareness Month.

Nicole at Alec's Story writes: One of my pet peeves, so to speak, is the concept of “unconditional love” as attributed to dogs by humans. That's a pet peeve of mine, too, along with "children are so honest!" (If you've ever seen the Bill Cosby bit about that, it's hilarious!) But she's also an alpha dog and Charles isn't.

Violet Rays is not a kid dog. So when we adopted a human baby we knew we'd have to teach that human to avoid Violet. The growing little human in the house was basically taught to stay far away from dogs and respect their space. We weren't planning to adopt another. Sky petted Stanley and he just stood there.
