Tomorrow I’m taking part in my local club’s official Big Day event – the Hudson-Mohawk Bird Club’s 73 rd Annual Guy Bartlett Century Run – for my fifth year in a row. Personally, I’m expecting nothing less than a Kirtland’s Warbler to get me to 129 species tomorrow, but scouting efforts to date paint a more grim picture.

Little Big Year – Week 35: Route 66, Tucumcari and The Albuquerque area

The birds were right next to an old abandoned farm house, and seemed quite happy to have their photo taken, up to a point, but then like the wind, they were gone, out thru the flat desert areas of New Mexico! This did open up the area to a few new species, like this Wilson’s Warbler. Here is one of those Downy Woodpeckers.
