When that isn’t possible, many raptor rehabbers keep tabs on nests and will place an abandon chick in a foster nest.

If you have been feeding black-oil sunflower and suddenly switch to straight safflower, birds will abandon your feeders. Safflower is not the favorite food of house sparrows, red-winged blackbirds and squirrels. She wrote the books Disapproving Rabbits and City Birds/Country Birds.
