For the record, I am opposed to violence in behalf of animals. I can't think of anything that does more harm to the cause of animal liberation. In the long run, the best thing we can do for animals is engage in rational persuasion. If you're unwilling to abandon the principle, then you must abstain from meat.

Puck’s Good Idea ” (editorial, March 26): Thank you for writing about the restaurateur Wolfgang Puck and his desire to buy meat raised humanely. If we are to live in a more peaceful world, we must abandon the cruelty on our plates. Eating dead animals and animal products is bad for people, bad for animals and bad for the planet.
