Matt Timpf is doing a Canada Big Year. I’m not at all sure what his goal is other than seeing lots of birds but Canada is a big country so I bet he succeeds! You can keep up with Matt at Canada Big Year 2013. And who’s planning one for 2014? That would be more species than are on his life list!

What is the State Bird of Alaska?

The Willow Ptarmigan, which is the most numerous, can also be found in Russia, Finland, Scandinavia, and Canada. Unlike other grouse species, the male Willow Ptarmigan remains with the female throughout the breeding season to help raise the chicks. The Willow Ptarmigan was officially designated in 1960, when Alaska entered the union.

Swift Care Ontario: Sometimes It Takes a Village

Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it sometimes takes a “village” of rehabbers to save threatened wildlife. The 2014 season demonstrated the power of cooperation, communication, and determination to save three Chimney Swifts. As a result of human interference, four Chimney Swift nestlings had to be rescued.
