First, some background regarding the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the listing of the Golden-cheeked Warbler is required. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) declared the Golden-cheeked Warbler “ endangered.” In 2014, FWS completed a five-year status review , concluding that development still threatened the warbler.

Late last month, while searching for bears , woodpeckers and spirits of Greece, I deliberately avoided checking any news, especially from my home country. Every now and then, I need to cut the world off and clear my mind. In Africa, one elephant is being killed every 15 minutes. One may say so. I say they were butchered, face-off.

Even more disconcerting to me than these “trophy hunters” killing wildlife for “sport” is the belief by some that carnivores such as bears and wolves should be eliminated. They are listed as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN red list. But I digress. It is obvious that hunting is NOT conservation.
