Coming into the second weekend of this new year, we’ve all added a few birds — possibly very few birds — to our year lists. I gave up year listing a couple of annums back even though I’ve rung up some banner bird bounties in 2010 and 2011. What will you be doing this weekend and where will you be birding?

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second Weekend of 2011)

Just two weekends into 2012, I already love this year. Note that I only condone this treatment for the highly localized Atlanta Falcon. But since these sorry birds are giving avifauna a bad name, I should mention the sleek Cooper’s Hawk I spotted at Turning Point Park. Not a bad bird at all!
