Big Whoop, Indeed: Whooping Cranes in Louisiana!

For the first time in 75 years, a pair has successfully nested in Louisiana , producing not one but two fuzzy, wild-born chicks. Louisiana’s last wild Whoopers disappeared just after World War II. A pair from the released batch set up housekeeping last month and lo and behold, eggs gave way to chicks. Warning: cute baby alert!).

Spoon-billed Sandpiper Baby Boom … in Great Britain?

First, wildlife officials in Louisiana announced the first successful wild Whooping Crane nest in that state since 1939. As a backup plan, researchers captured some Spoonies in Siberia in 2011 and brought them to England , where they’ve been raised at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire.
