Right Whale Sighting in the Azores

A brief story with two subjects I love, whales and the Azores. On 5th January 2009 a North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) was seen 5 miles south of Faial Island in the Azores by biologists from Whale Watch Azores and the University of the Azores (UA). African Penguins in Peril

The birdlife in the Cape is nothing short of spectacular, with a healthy dose of charismatic endemic species. Over 40 species of South African endemics can be found in the Cape – Cape Sugarbirds, Cape Rockjumpers, Orange-breasted Sunbirds to name but a few. In 2009 the population was recorded as 20,699 pairs.

What Will My Next Ten Birds in Queens Be?

Now my Queens list stands at a whopping 302, which means I have actually added thirteen species since my last predictions. My shorebird list in Queens is now at thirty-eight species! (It Cory’s Shearwater – 06 Oct 2013 – Going on a whale-watching trip with my family really paid off. Number 300 in Queens!
