Right Whale Sighting in the Azores

On 5th January 2009 a North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) was seen 5 miles south of Faial Island in the Azores by biologists from Whale Watch Azores and the University of the Azores (UA). Almost One-Third of Japanese Whale Kill Was Pregnant

Critter News

Of 679 whales reported to have been killed during the 2008-2009 whale hunt in Antarctica, 304 were female. Four of the female whales were lactating, and 192 were pregnant at the time of death. Tags: whales Japan hunting whaling. Leave it to the Japanese. Always classy. From Wildlife Extra.

African Penguins in Peril

Sharks, Cape Fur Seals and even Killer Whales will prey on them in the ocean. In 2009 the population was recorded as 20,699 pairs. Obviously, the penguins are more vulnerable on land, hence their propensity to nest on offshore islands. From 1978 to 2008 the Namibian population declined from 12,162 pairs to 4,563 pairs.

Cory’s Shearwater – 06 Oct 2013 – Going on a whale-watching trip with my family really paid off. Sooty Shearwater – There are a total of three records in eBird of this species in Queens, from 2006, 2009, and 2012. Number 300 in Queens! I will get one eventually.
