The steeply declining number of whales in the world's oceans is causing the remaining creatures to suffer loneliness and 'lose the will the live', a leading expert has claimed. Their numbers have declined so rapidly that a paltry 10 percent of the pre-20th century population remains (read Adam Riley’s post on Africa’s endangered species ). Sharks, Cape Fur Seals and even Killer Whales will prey on them in the ocean. In 1979 the South African population was estimated at 56,900 pairs.
