My work as a wildlife rehabilitator over the past forty-five years has allowed me a unique perspective on a disturbing trend. If you see a wild bird in danger, call a wildlife rehabilitator. Rehabilitators also cooperate with law enforcement on illegal activity, and even monitor emerging diseases in avian species.

I didn’t know much about Flickers until I started volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center a couple of years ago. Flickers have other strategies. But the all-time favorite flicker strategy is to scream like a slasher movie victim and fly straight at the person’s head.

My energy-saving strategy did not help me. Since I am a wild bird rehabilitator and have seen, up close, the damage a cat can do to a bird, let me address the owner of the “hummingbird murderer.”. I was tempted to go on Facebook with guns blazing, but right now I am forced to pick and choose the timing of my battles.
