Godlewski’s Bunting is an attractive bunting species with a rather broad distribution in Russia, Mongolia, China, and other countries. After such a mysterious bird, it is time to enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing ordinary birds such as the Eurasian Tree Sparrow. Unfortunately, I did not manage such a photo this time.

Next came a stop in Russia. The birds however, weren’t as plentiful in the walk-able area in and around the city, but I still got to glimpse some thrush, t**s, sparrows, swallows, Jackdaws and the familiar Hooded Crow. Between finishing one graduate program and beginning another, he embarked on a whirlwind tour of Europe.

This applies even more so to the Eurasian Tree Sparrow. Hazel Grouse are not easy to see despite not moving around much in their lifetime – according to the HBW, “in Russia, 88% of recoveries within 500 m of ringing site” For most people, the main reason to come to Inner Mongolia in winter is to see owls.

The HBW description of the Southern Grey-headed Sparrow , a sedentary African sparrow, barely avoids using the word palish but uses plenty of other -ish adjectives: “pale ash-grey, often with brownish tinge, underparts pale grey, becoming whitish on belly and vent” Not a particular fan of that species, I guess.
