Coincidentally, last night was a board meeting for our homeowner's association, and though I wasn't on the agenda there's always time for homeowner comments about, say, the petting zoo and pony rides that are scheduled for the spring "BBQ" ( here 's part one of this story). And there's not much from the health angle for pony rides.

Ferruginous Pygmy-Owls

Out of breath he finally arrived at the pool and told me that they had located a pair of owls right at the entrance to the lodge itself in a mesquite thicket. “Schmoking Ponies!” Right at the lodge. He was gesturing like a madman. Sure enough, there they were. A pair of Ferruginous Pygmy Owls!

Clare M’s 2015 Year List

It was stood beside a locally marked Grey-tailed Tattler , which only carried a faded plain yellow flag and metal band on its right leg. Now, a Common Redshank is just not a “common” bird at all here in Broome and it had in fact been several years since we had seen one. What a nice way to end the year!
