It seems like the answer to most questions/responses to most issues is one of these: Speciesism. Many people support this, particularly affluent types, who have become dog and cat people and now own them as "pets." Yes, it is hypocritical (speciesism), but who said that we either protect humans or animals?

And now that I've read Animal Equality and begun Speciesism , I think I know why. In the notes, she explains that she uses " nonhuman companion and nonhuman friend with reference to nonhumans treated with full respectl I use pet with reference to nonhumans who are sold, discarded, or otherwise disrespected" (204).

Beloved family pet Dalmatian, Pepper, is stolen, and after several weeks of searching is discovered to have been experimented on at a hospital and died on the table when researchers tried to implant her with an experimental cardiac pacemaker. We need language that doesn't support a divide between "pet" animals and everyone else. Tags: Books Ethics Language parenting publishing speciesism veganism. Therefore, one of the many things we need, aside from the obvious of more vegan parents, is a line of nonspeciesist books for each age/stage. I'm a terrible fiction writer.

When I saw the Live Science article about dogs being as smart as 2-year-old kids I knew that if there were any talk of ranking, my beloved greyhounds would be at the less-desirable end of the list (not from personal experience, but from reputation), and I also knew that there would be a whiff of speciesism. Do you think this helps dogs?
