In light of this horrible incident, is it right for the zoo to carry on a breeding program that subjects more animals to such unnatural lives? This horrible incident has raised some tough questions indeed. The zoo, surely, carries responsibility for deficiencies in its enclosure. Finally, what of the audience?

Between staying warm/cool, finding food, avoiding predators, migrating thousands of miles every year, finding mates, raising chicks and doing all this at the mercy of the elements, it makes sense that they have more brainpower than just simple instinct to run on. Picture being a Blackpoll Warbler being born in the boreal forests of Alaska.

Not only are they killed in cruel ways, but it is well documented that they are raised in ways that cause them great discomfort and agony. The question that must be raised, however, is how the conclusion not to eat meat follows from this. Consequently, one ought not to eat meat until actual practice is changed.
