Birding Inner Mongolia

Second note: Inner Mongolia has a land area larger than that of France and Germany combined, and I only spent one week there. So, to claim that I birded Inner Mongolia is a massive exaggeration. Always nice, for some reason. but without the bitter taste of losing a race. This applies even more so to the Eurasian Tree Sparrow.

Birding Ruoergai, Sichuan, China

Godlewski’s Bunting is an attractive bunting species with a rather broad distribution in Russia, Mongolia, China, and other countries. Not sure how I (or the bird itself) feel about the bird being named after a bird collector, though. Admittedly, the issue is more serious for Przevalski’s Pinktail.

BirdingAsia has a report on the first Rosy Pipit seen in Mongolia. The Rosy Pipit seems a bit oversold to me as it takes a lot of goodwill to see the rosiness of the species. Being wet seems to help, though. Frankly, I find such reports relatively meaningless, but I guess they give a sense of purpose to the listers of this world.
