The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. For some people, it is inhumane to eat meat in any situation, no matter how well the animal is treated prior to and during slaughter. You are not processing their wellbeing, but their carcasses for meat. Here is my opinion.

Of course, as a result, "ethical meat" becomes an option unless one realizes that killing when you don't need to is killing when you don't need to, no matter if it occurs in a slaughterhouse or in a mobile slaughter operation or in a backyard. We all know junk-food vegans and vegans who eat "faux meat" products every day.

The only cool thing is that Gene Bauer's views on the meat industry are so similar to those expressed on this blog a few weeks ago. Baur believes that slaughterhouse cruelty can be reduced by simple operational changes, such as slowing down the slaughter lines. How many people know this about the Animal Welfare Act? I certainly didn't.

Given the people in the world who are hungry or even starving, we should not eat meat, since in eating meat we are, as it were, wasting grain that could be used to feed the hungry people of the world. Nobody wants existing animals to be slaughtered. It assumes that not eating meat is one way to conserve grain.
