The only cool thing is that Gene Bauer's views on the meat industry are so similar to those expressed on this blog a few weeks ago. Humane treatment runs counter to the entire industry when the point is to make money by processing these animals as fast as possible. How many people know this about the Animal Welfare Act?

The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. In my opinion, and I am a vegetarian, the second definition of humane is the MINIMAL that we should expect. He asked whether cows, chickens, sheep and some of the other animals that we eat are usually treated and killed in a humane manner.

It’s a terrible but ultimately not surprising tale, given the continued lack of self-regulation and the emphasis on profit over safety in the meat industry.
