Marine life. One of the worst pictures I've ever seen is of a seal with its stomach cut open and a mess of plastic inside. The protection of marine animals may fall under "environmentalism," but these are artificial divisions. Here's a short opinion piece on plastics and marine life.

The objective wasn’t even birds, it was fur seals. My brother is in town for a few days so I decided to take him to Red Rocks on Wellington’s South Coast to look at the seal haul out. The day was sunny and calm (a novelty), and the time of year is right for seals. Which brings us to yesterday.

The animal protection group Seal Sitters says a necropsy showed that the sea lion had suffered a shark bite and had twisted intestines in addition to a bullet wound. KING says one of the Nisqually casualties was a Steller sea lion, protected under the Endangered Species Act. Investigators say they do not know who is responsible.
