Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Tiger Afternoon

A winding track through dense woodlands takes us to the Telia Lake in the southeast of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. Our guide explains that it was discovered by tiger cubs and taken off to play with, hence the claw and tooth marks. All of a sudden, in a hushed voice he says one word only: “Tigers!”

Birding Shanghai in May 2023 – Part 1

A paper reports on how a female Common Cuckoo was mobbed and killed by Oriental Reed Warbler hosts. The rather elegant-looking Tiger Shrike also mostly feeds on insects but was not kind enough to let me take a video or photo of this (the species thinks that such recordings may result in a negative public image).
