Watching my first Brown Pelicans , I am inhaling deeply and commenting to Sergio Arias how strong the scent is. But why would someone look for that, an easy and common one among the 920+ bird species of Costa Rica? He answers: “Maybe the ganja those guys are smoking makes it that strong.”. And I saw my first Blackburnian Warbler!

It’s the boar hunting season. By the cliffs we find several Eurasian Crag-Martins and a consolation species – a family of Golden Eagles in the air! Among them are Dalmatian Pelicans , so big and lazy. The Greater Spotted Eagle is a threatened species. One Grey-headed Woodpecker flies across the road – a promising start.
