Our group watching the first Snow Leopard from a knoll above our camp in Hemis National Park. At this very spot, on our first afternoon in the park, and within half an hour of officially beginning our Snow Leopard search, our expert local spotter had exclaimed “ Shan !!” – the Ladakhi name for Snow Leopard.

Tigers are an underrated big cat. I love leopards. But tigers get no respect. Tigers are ambush predators, and clearly, they’re very good at it. Like I said, tigers get no respect. Lions hunt in prides. Tigers are solitary hunters. They’re not solitary because they hate other tigers.

Nitin hopes to enlarge his collection of photos of Tigers. I am curious to see whatever awaits us in the Nagzira Tiger Reserve. Among teak and bamboo thickets, a winding forest road takes us deeper into the enchanted Snake Jungle, but alas, not a Tiger in sight. Anyway, it is winter and the snakes should be hibernating.
