Riding around Mission Bay and back to the headquarters along the San Diego River can garner us about sixty-five species over the 10-mile bike ride.

Greater Rheas, a species the Germans call Nandu, are very popular in Germany and frequently kept in zoos as well as private enclosures. This is where the fact that German birders are humans comes into play (and they sure aren’t the only ones ). Clearly, the birds had to be removed, the sooner the better.

As our Gypsy comes to a halt, one Oriental Honey Buzzard is investigating the new arrivals. But, in the next year, 2009, only one human was killed by a tiger, leading to a conclusion that all the tigers in the conflict area (practically, the wider reserve buffer zone) have been wiped out.
