I enjoy falconry, it’s not merely a sport or hobby, it is a lifestyle. They know how to trap raptors and if something is interesting nearby, they will try to band it for research. I think what bothered me most was that I knew how angry birders get about owls and that this would be bad PR for falconry. Not always.
