I can’t help noticing that you’ve just posted an angry story about Cecil the Lion on your timeline. And that lions are really cute. Cecil the Lion reached millions, and it exploded all over my social media in a way few conservation stories do (even with my social media heavily biased towards conservation).

He says he hunts out of a need to take responsibility for his family, who evidently live where the supermarkets offer no meat. Animals suffer when killed. Who wiped out the wolves and mountain lions?

Sea lion mothers wail when watching their babies being eaten by killer whales. Chimpanzees and elephants grieve the loss of family and friends, and gorillas hold wakes for the dead. If she’d been left alone, she would have fallen prey to a lion or other predator. Is this moral? If Babyl lagged, some would wait for her.
