There are two excellent things about birding Los Angeles County: the weather is always beautiful (well, maybe hot, but I’m one of those no-humidity=great weather people) and the diverse range of birding habitats.

When they go low… How about the Tyrant Flycatcher family? You can fly direct to Mexico City from many American cities; while you can fly direct to Morelia from Oakland, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, and Chicago. Arizona is a lovely state, and is home to many lovely people, including one of my brothers-in-law.

Because I have birded southern California in winter several times there weren’t any of the normally occurring birds that I could get within easy reach of my in-laws house in Orange County. I could go for the American Dipper that was reported in the foothills northeast of Los Angeles.
