Arizona, or Central Mexico?

I got back into birding less than a decade ago, long after moving to Mexico in 1983. So I can hardly speak with authority on birding in the U.S. A quick study as I researched this post revealed that fully 37 Arizonan “specialties” are common birds right here where I live. Consider the striking Berylline Hummingbird.

ABA-Area Bird Number 500!

This post is old news to those who pay attention to what I say on Facebook but I am still pleased as punch to point out that I have finally reached the 500-bird milestone in the American Birding Association area (basically North America north of Mexico). There were, however, several rarities around that would get me to 500 birds.
